Artificial stone (Part 1)

June 12th, 2007

Stone – is one of the first natural materials, used by people for construction. Building technologies have removed it on the second plan. Now it is applied, basically, for finishing and repair works. But not everyone presumes to revet a wall of the house with artificial stone, as it expensive and demands labor-consuming additional works on strengthening a surface of walls and stone preparation.
However, the human ingenuity has no limits. Now there is an alternative – the manufacturing techniques of an artificial stone are developed. The name “an artificial stone” concerns more likely to its origin, than to appearance. It is almost impossible to distinguish natural stone from artificial one and only an experienced expert can do this only from very close distance – modern technologies allow to simulate that both the form, and color, and a structure of a natural material. The following material serve as its main components: cement of the highest marks (Portland cement), easy natural filling materials (expanded clay) and natural high-quality dyes.
Now, let????????s have some words about process of decorative stones manufacturing. The mix from all components is filled in special forms, one of which repeats the form of a natural stone, and another one – is absolutely flat. Original “Easter cake” on an equal surface as a result turns out. Its area deviates from 5 cm???? up to 0,5 m????, and thickness – from 1 up to 10 cm. Owing to such form the artificial stone is very simple in installation. First of all, it is a three times lighter natural (depending on a kind of a product the weight of 1 m???? makes from 20 up to 45 kg), therefore it is not required to strengthen a wall special with iron armature. Secondly, as the stone it has a smooth back surface and it is not necessary “to warm” a wall (as volumetric natural). It well lays down practically on any surface and fastens by means of a usual cement mortal with addition of glutinous structure, that can be done independently and no any special skills are required.
