Stained-glass windows. Coloring.

April 6th, 2008

Let’s pass to the following, most known, way of pseudo-stained-glass windows manufacturing. It is a stained-glass window from beaten glass and silicate glue. It is necessary to prepare color glasses of the necessary size. Prepare the sketch full-scale, attach from an underside to glass. Degrease a surface with liquid ammonia and put planimetric ornament with dark marker or paint. Cover glass with a layer of silicate glue (liquid glass) and spread a mosaic from color splinters of glass according to the matched figure. In 4-6 hours the surface of a stained-glass window should be filled in with a continuous layer of glue so that it covered all acting splinters. So that the glue did not flow down, on edges it is possible to establish a time framework from wood strips. Except for silicate glue you may use epoxy adhesive or polyester pitch.
It is possible to execute a stained-glass window from whole color glasses according to the following technology. We prepare the sketch and fix it from an underside of transparent glass, as well as in the previous cases. We cut out from the whole color glasses sites of figure of a necessary configuration. On transparent glass-basis the “dry” set of a stained-glass window is done. The space between slices of color glass is filled in with solution of following structure: cement - 1 part, sand - 3 parts, glue - 1 part. For convenience at this operation it is possible to take even polyethylene container from under shampoo into which the glass or plastic tube in diameter of 4-5 mm is inserted. Before filling up edges of color glasses in junctions with silicate glass are carefully greased with a solution by means of a wooden stick. After the drying the basic filling up is made. At such processing the solution does not leak under color glasses, and the stained-glass window turns out accurate and nice.

Stained-glass windows (Part 1)

April 1st, 2008

Real stained-glass window is made of the pieces of color glass inserted into a metal frame. Earlier for manufacturing frames lead was used and now - stainless steel and aluminium have superseded it. Such technologies are, unfortunately, quite complex for house creativity. Therefore, we wish to bring to your attention a little more accessible pseudo-stained-glass windows devices.
Before manufacturing of any stained-glass window it is necessary to develop the full-scale color sketch. If you feel like an artist, you may easily start the business. Otherwise you should find a suitable ornament, address to classics, gradually move ahead from simple to complex, and all your friends will admire creations of your hands.
After development of the sketch, cover it with glass, on which the stained-glass window will be made. It should be well cleaned and skim.
The first method is based on use of soluble color fabrics, such as acetate silk, which is easily dissolved by acetone and nitro lacquers. Cut out slices of thin fabric of a necessary configuration and color according to figure of the future stained-glass window. Cover glass with a thin layer of transparent nitro lacquer and dry it. Then the same nitro lacquers should be put on separate zones, and rags of preparation should be pasted.
Gluing is necessary for making precise pictures as the fabric starts to be dissolved practically at once, and it cannot be moved. Having pasted a rag on the place allocated for it, cover the mark with nitro lacquers and pass to the following one. Having filled a stained-glass window with elements, put one more layer of nitro lacquers and atop pair layers of parquet lacquers. Making pseudo-frame is the following stage. For this purpose epoxy pitch should be mixed up with a hardener in the ratio 1 : 8~10. The received weight should be mixed up with talc and aluminium or bronze powder till the moment, when a mix will get metal shine and will not spread on the glass. Then the received weight should be filled into confectionery syringe or used tube from under a tooth-paste and the equal platen squeeze out on outlines of stained-glass window. Thus it is important not to suppose crossings between lines as platens should not run against each other.
We recommend making all actions with nitro lacquers in well aired premise or at open air, and it is necessary to work in rubber gloves with epoxy pitch.

Straw houses

March 19th, 2008

Houses under straw roofs are quite popular nowadays. They are used both in England, and in the African villages. But the houses completely constructed from this absolutely nonconventional for us building material, are perceived while with some mistrust.
In the twentieth years of the last century the fashion on houses from straw bales has come to some American states.
But in the end of the century the southwest of the USA has again turned to cheap houses from waste agricultural products. Sheaves of straw have again started gleaming in hardworking hands.
Why straw houses are so popular now? The matter is that they are cheap, ease in use and straw has appeared faultless from the point of view of ecology. And moreover, the idea of the use of straw (as a matter of fact, waste of agriculture) has solved the problem of material recycling.
What do we need for the straw house?
First of all, we need straw. But it is not so easy, as it should be well-pressed.
Any stalks, but is more preferable take rye or linen straw as they for some reason do not cause appetite in all wreckers, may be initial material for blocks.
The sizes of blocks depend on length of straw. It is considered, that the stalks of straw are the longer, the more qualitatively they as a building material are.
The main thing is that straw in blocks was dry. If blocks have got damp, before the beginning of their construction, it is necessary to dry them well.
